We had such an amazing trip! It seemed as if nothing cound go wrong for us. One day Steve, Peter and Mike left camp at 5 pm to look for a bushbuck and within 5 minutes I heard a shot. They came across one just outside of camp which was a great trophy! And both Giant Eland are very good trophies. We saw lots of Eland which was fabulous As you may know, Steve hunted twice in the CAR for Giant Eland and didn't see but one group the entire time. So your area is really excellent for Eland as well as other animals.
Both Peter and Mike are excellent PHs and Mike sure knows the area. They worked very well together and were so fun to be with, We all laughed and joked, as well as hunted hard. Steve got some fabulous trophies that will look great in our trophy room. You have a great bunch of PHs. The camps were comfortable and the food was great.
Thanks again for a great time. And thank you for letting us stay at Mayo Oldiri camp to get acclimated. Steve caught two nice nile perch there.

Not sure where to begin. The hunt was all that I had hoped for and more. Camp and food were wonderful. Not sure I have ever had better food in any camp in Africa. Lots and lots of game - 3 to 4 troupes of Eland minimum each day. Worked all day hard the first day with no bull but shot a wonderful, old, worn but VERY black Eland early the second day. Our luck held and license was completed by end of 3 day. Had a lovely dinner with your office staff last night. Wonderful people.
Thanks again for making it all happen. Looking forward to the forrest in 2010!!!

Dear Raquel
I wanted to tell you how good of a hunt I had. Your safari company is without a doubt as good as it gets. Your people in Douala were always there and did their job courtesely and professionally. The hunt it self was better than I had hoped and/or dreamed. Guy was a great guide and put me on great trophys His camp was superb and his staff was everything one could ask for.My only regret was that I could not stay longer. I hope someday to return, I would love to hunt buffalo with Guy.I wan to thank you for all the help you gave me before the hunt with the questions I asked. Again I cant express in words the great time I had. I hope to see in Reno or Dalls next year so I can tell you in person.

I thought I would just drop you a note to say how much I enjoyed hunting both your Djibao and Mayo Nduel concessions with Mike Curry. He is an excellent young man with all the right values and skills and I am sure that the hunting world is going to hear much more about him in the years to come.
I thought the camp at Djibao was extremely well managed by Herve and Gizelle. The well trained staff and good food reminded me of Lognia Camp and there is no doubt that women can and do make a huge and positive differences in a hunting camp.
As regards the hunt, what can I say? I behaved like a complete amateur when I saw the magnificent bull and, in my excitement and impatience to make him mine, took a shot I should never have attempted. The three days that followed were agonising and I died many deaths at the thought that I might not find him and, without the outstanding tracking skills of Ahmadou, I would not have done so. He is a very, very good tracker - excellent eyes, hard working, patient, determined and quiet. I have a lot of time for him.
The end when it came was almost too exciting and the bull took four good shots on the run in the chest cavity (which you could cover with one outstretched hand) and my final one in the back of the neck to put down. It was my Christmas present to myself and what a present it was - a truly wonderful Lord Derby's eland. It was the eland of my dreams.
I loved the scenery of Mayo Nduel, terrain and the large numbers and variety of game in this concession.
Well, this was my second hunt with Mayo Oldiri and I shall have to think of some excuse to try and hunt with you again - maybe in Mocambique for nyala or something like that. In the meantime, I have recommended your operation to all the friends who have contacted me since my return to inquire how my hunt went. Although the conventional wisdom is that CAR has much bigger eland, I think that Cameroon if fast disproving this if it has not done so already and the latter country is certainly proving to be safer and the hunting concessions much easier to access.
Raquel, thank you once again for providing me with a wonderful experience.
Kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
Peter.

Hi Raquel,
I'm back at home now and would like to take a minute to once again thank you for all your help with my last minute affairs. The hunting was incredible and Guy took very good care of me. Any needs I may have had were handled by him and his staff immediately. I really have no complaints. The trip to the village with the Bluebag also came off well. It was a very big deal to the Village elders, local officials and children alike. They wanted to know how to keep tourism up so more assistance like that will continue in the future. I told them without Guy and Mayo Oldiri this would not be possible. I'm sure they see the value in your presence in that part of their country. I will do my part by writing an article to SCI Humanitarian Services for future publication and hopefully more help from future hunters. Also I had the honor of riding in the charter from Kika to Douala with your father, he took good care of me waiting my flight out of Cameroon. Once again thank you for everything.

Dear friends: We want to take this opportunity to share our thoughts regarding the recent hunt in Cameroon.
We have heard many stories about the difficulties as well as the beauty of hunting in the rain forest. Now that we have time to reflect on our experience, we must agree; it is tough but, worth the effort!
The greatest asset to us was our PH Mike Currie. He conducted himself with great professionalism at all times, both with us and with all the staff in the Lognia camp. Several times we remarked to each other about the manner in which all the villagers, staff and trackers respect him and make every effort to do exactly what he asked of them. Also, his sense of humour and always smiling face certainly eased the stress of those "somewhat difficult" hunting days. We have been in many camps but we left this one with a sense of truly bonding with Mike. We hope that Mike will be permanently assigned to Lognia as we feel he is a tremendous representative for the Mayo Oldiri Organization. He and Lognia are "perfect fit".
Again, we have a tremendous time. We enjoy seeing the photos everyday as a reminder of our unique experiences there. Thank you for the great memories.

I wanted to let you know how much I appreciated the opportunity you and your father provided me on my recent hunt at Mayo Oldiri. It was a terrific hunt with a great collection of animals. Your staff is tremendous and a credit to your professionalism. Each one of them went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and happy. Sean Grant is one of the best PH's I have hunted with on my several trips to the African Continent. He is not only a great hunter, he is a pleasure to be with. We had a very enjoyable hunt together. Also, I would like to acknowledge Adrianna for her great commitment to your organization. Although she was new to managing a camp and a bit nervous, she did a GREAT job. I will highly recommend your company to my many clients and friends. As the 2007 SCI North American Professional hunter of the year myself here in the States, I know what it takes to be in the forefront of your competition, and your company is in such a position. Again, thank you and your entire staff for such a great trip. Also, thank you for the opportunity you provided me in getting to meet the King. While setting there in his presence, I was astonished that never in my wildest dreams while growing up on a small Iowa farm that I would ever see anything or experience anything such as that.
Thank you again.

I want you to know, that I had an absolutely wonderful hunting experience once again with Mayo Oldiri. Your team did everything to make sure I got the trophies I wanted and to look after my comfort. Everything was excellent and I have no complaints. Joaquin is a perfect gentlemen and a very good hunter. He takes good care of his team and I have a lot of respect for him. Sean did a good job too as did Guav in going after my Buffalo. They are both young and Sean is a bit hard headed, but he is a good hunter and I had fun with both of them. Sadi is an extremely nice man and a big asset for your company and clients in Northern Cameroon. I really liked Sadi and I am happy he is on your team. He took good care of me and made sure I got back on the plane in Garoua with no problems.
Thanks

Just a note to let you know we had a great time in Cameroon. What an exciting adventure. The first camp at Dja was just beautiful and Juan was a great fellow that enjoyed the outdoors as much as we do.
Arrived in camp after a ride down river in the dark. Hiked six hours from camp into the Rain Forrest. We spent 3 days and two nights in the Rain Forrest. Slept in Hammocks. Chased the elephant. Enjoyed all of time at the Dja camp. Transferred to Lognia and got to go in by airplane. Was met by Geoffrey and had a 2 hour ride to the Lognia Camp. Super camp and Sybille took great care of all camp matters. Geoffrey is a real professional and probably the best bongo ph anywhere. Very exciting chasing Bongos. Had to have Sybille staple a dog after a Bongo got him. Lanceine got a great Bongo. Drove east to west almost the entire length of Cameroon. 17 hours of dirt road the first day! What a great trip! Hope to hunt in Cameroon again!
Thanks!

I am finally back and able to send email. I want you to know what a wonderful hunt I had! You are, of course, right about the forest. You just cannot make something happen. Luck is so important. I am disappointed at not taking more animals, but it is not anyone's fault, just difficult hunting. We almost got buffalo one day and almost got Sitatunga on two different days. They just did not cooperate. It rained often the first week, but no rain at all the second week. No one has control over that either, and you know the results of no rain in the forest.
Stephane is an amazing PH! Very knowledgeable, in control, always has a plan, and tries very hard. He gets so frustrated when things do not work out. We wanted so much for me to be more successful. I had a great time with him! Everything about the camp was even more than I expected. What a beautiful camp! I also have pictures for you of the new fly camp he built.
I am very very pleased with the Bongo I took! He is very old, big bodied, heavy horned, with well polished horns, even on the front of the horns. It was a great hunt and I shot him without use of the dogs. The Blue Duiker I took is a very good one and will rank #23 in the SCI Record Book.
All of your staff did a wonderful job of taking care of me and I think the charter cost was less than I expected.
Many many thanks

Your operation is excellent, equipment top quality, staff superior (including Guav and Sadi) and of course your hunting concession as you know is as good as they get.
Leaving the country was easy as can be, we didn't have any waits or lineups and AmadoU was really efficient and helpful. It was totally different than the disaster I had last safari with that other outfitter, this was so much better going with you this time.
I am looking forward to going back hunting with you in Cameroon, and anywhere else your father might be thinking of opening up hunting areas. It was such a pleasure to work with professional outfitters, hopefully we can work together in the future again.

I thought Central Asia was tough to get around in, but inside Cameroon, travel has its own set of issues. You just cannot be in any hurry.
When I was getting ready for the trip, I worried that I would be treated like a second class citizen due to my not hunting Eland. Nothing could have been further from the truth. I was treated as well as could be expected by your camp managers. They even baked a birthday cake!
Thank you again

I just wanted to say thank you for a fantastic forest Safari. I realize how very difficult everything is in the forest. I also realize that hunts do not always go according to plan and one must be flexible and maintain a positive attitude and outlook.
May Oldiri did a great job in my opinion with a very difficult challenge, especially after Stephan got really sick. Guy is a very nice man and a superb professional hunter."....(one of the best I have hunted with) and he has a very good rapore with the Pygmies. He treats them very well and with respect. When he has to be stern and firm with them as a boss he is. But when they do a good job and we are successful, he rewards them."
Geoffroy is a fantastic hunter too and has Bongo hunting perfected to a science. Boumba North is a great area and heavy with game, especially elephant, Peters & Yellowback duiker.
Thanks for a very successful hunt. I enjoyed meeting your father and the effort both he and you went to in order to make my safari a success.

I was particularly impressed with Geoffroy's zeal for hunting, passion for wildlife and his comprehensive knowledge of the forest. He struck me as a true hunter/naturalist as the great hunters were in the early days of African exploration. He truly respects wildlife and has dedicated his life to spending time in nature. I was grealy impressed with his level of commitment.

I had a GREAT experience at Mayo Oldiri. Thank you! I would go back in a heartbeat, but only in December or January when you need a blanket to sleep. As for staff, I LOVED Sadi. He is a GREAT asset to you, kind, intense, passionate, helpful, and knowledgeable. He is the perfect host, quite engaging in conversation and willing to share thoughts and experiences. As for the cooking staff, Abel and Deli, both the waiter and cook should be commended. They are AWESOME WONDERFUL!!!! The service was world-class with the attention given to us.
The gun you rented me was perfect. As long as you have world-class scopes on the guns, your hunters should get their game and be able to avoid the hassle of importing their own. I recommend the 8X68 for anyone coming to Mayo Oldiri without their own gun. As for buffalo, that might be something else. They might want their own big gun.
I am indebted to you for providing us this great opportunity. You really do a good job and obviously do a lot of planning and preparation and thinking. Oh, by the way, a final highlight was visiting Govner's village school, where I paid some teachers and the village chief some money to meet the students. I taught them English songs and vocabulary and they showed us their songs and dances. They cheerfully ran toward us waving happily as we drove down the road away from their village. It was a scene I will never forget.
I forgot to tell you how great a driver Abdou is. Professional quality. Your people in Douala are also good. The scene at the airports is a headache that they are absolutely NECESSARY to resolve.

If it was not for Stephane, I would not have gotten a Bongo. He went over, and above on that last day of the hunt. It was definitely more difficult than I expected. I have never sweated as much as I did that day in my entire life! You have a great bunch of guys, trackers, helpers, and skinners. The pigmy's are an easy going, good natured, tough bunch of fellows. I really enjoyed being around them. We just could not find a Bongo that would stop. They were all grey hound running sons a bitches! Dan was the lucky one. A 27 inch Sitatuga, a dandy Bongo that he tracked for less than an hour.

Gilles is one of the best PH's that I have ever hunted with. Your new concession that I hunted contains a tremendous amount of quality game. During the 8 days that I was actually hunting we observed Lord Derby Eland on 5 different days. The camp accomdadations were very nice and the food was very good. I want to express my heartfelt thanks for the amazing trip my husband and I had in Cameroon with Mayo Oldiri Safaris (June 2005). From the moment we met Raquel in Reno, everything was handled so smoothly for us. We were growing more and more excited as the date to leave Texas arrived. Ahmadou met us at the airport in Duoala and handled our entrance into the country with speed and ease. Stephane showed us around Duoala on the day before our charter arrived, and Antonio expressed his utmost professionalism when he informed us of some changes to be made to our itinerary. We were fortunate to experience two forest camps, Boumba (for 4 days) and Lognia (for 12 days) and to hunt with two great professional hunters. Stephane was very knowledgeable and friendly, and worked hard for us in Boumba.
When we arrived in Lognia, I must say that both Jerel and I were amazed at Geoffroy’s “paradise in the rainforest”. It surpassed all of our expectations! The camp was run so smoothly, under Sybille & Geoffroy’s leadership. I had a wonderful time bonding with Simossa, and learning all about the Baka Pygmies and their culture and traditions, as well as the history and foreseeable future of the forest. I can confidently say that Geoffroy was prepared for any emergency that may come our way, his aptitude, skill, and obvious bonds with the Bakas was really an amazing thing to see. In my opinion, he is the best professional hunter that I have ever encountered. He is passionate about the land, its people and its animals, as well as the hunters who stay with him. I have never met another PH who was as active in antipoaching and improving the land he is hunting.
Jerel did get a very nice bongo towards the end of the safari, as well as some duikers and a mongoose. The sheer excitement and joy that went through everyone on the day of the Bongo harvest was phenomenal. And a tear came to everyone’s eyes when Geoffroy cheered Jean 4 after the bongo was taken. We all know he was with us that day, and on everyone’s mind. I cried when we left camp at the end of our safari. The rainforest touched a part of my soul that nowhere else I have been has.
When it comes the time for me to hunt my Bongo, you can rest assured that it will be with Geoffroy and Mayo Oldiri. I will also tell all of my friends who hunt internationally that you are the company to book with. This was the best hunting experience of my life. It was by far the most difficult hunt physically that I have ever been on, but the end result was made all the more gratifying by the hard work that went into the harvest. I look with great anticipation to my return.

Our hunt was completely beyond our expectations in every way. The attention to every detail in your camps, vehicles, staff, professional hunters, and amenities is unsurpassed by any hunting operation in Africa.
Hunting report
Dear Don,
Attached are two photos of the Lord Derby Eland, and one photo of the Western Savanna Buffalo I took with Mayo Oldiri Safaris in Cameroon in January 2005. The Eland scores 127 6/8 SCI. He measures 50 X 49 3/4 X 14 (each base). There are still 50" Eland in Cameroon! Don't let the ads fool you. This company is unsurpassed in service and quality of concessions. They are 100% on Eland for the past three years with a 50" average. Their PH's, camp staff, safari camps (which are permanent camps), chef's, and attention to detail are second to no one anywhere in Africa. Once you are in camp it is hard to believe you are in Cameroon! This company gets an A+ rating in every category that you might score.
My hunt was for 14 days and I took all ten species I was after in 12 days. All species were very abundant! Besides the Eland and Buffalo, I took Red-flanked Duiker, Nigerian Bohor Reedbuck, Western Hartebeest, Western Kob, Sing-Sing Waterbuck, Western Bush Duiker, Harnessed Bushbuck, and Oribi. All were SCI record book animals.
